I am very excited to have finally started my music blog! Its been a long time coming. If you know me, you already know how much I geek out over music. Well now I have a place to let all the geekiness pour out of me and you can partake if you choose! If youre a friend, this doesnt mean i will stop geeking out in person with you…sorry! But this will allow me to spread my passion with music to more people! I do think that sometimes I will post off topic if I really feel the need to share something with everyone, but for the most part this blog will be MUSIC! Please feel free to comment and leave your opinions about the music I write about, ask me questions, ask for recommendations, whatever! I want this to be as interactive and fun as possible. Ill post things I think you should check out, and am working on podcasting too!
I hope you enjoy it even a bit as much as i do!
Happy New Year!
Kyle

SHELLEY HARLAND

As some of you may have expected, my first music “must listen” is Shelley Harland. She is about to launch her debut EP called Wonder in January. Some of you may be familiar with her work as simply, Harland. She has released about 2 LPs as Harland and one as Phoelar. Those outstanding albums are more raw electronic/trip-hop in sound. Check out the song Fly, to this day it is still one of my favorites. Also, her song In The Dark has garnered quite a following and the latest acoustic version of it is the best yet! You can hear it on her myspace (just click on her picture or her underlined name in the first sentence of this entry). Her new direction proves just how versatile and strong she is as an artist. It tells that she is just starting to show what she is capable of doing and that she will be around a long time. I have yet to hear the whole LP (Red Leaf) however, she has posted a few songs on and off on her myspace page from it. Ill be honest, when I first learned of the new more acoustic turn she was taking, I was a bit sad. Im a sucker for darker, more electronic oriented music. But when i first heard the song Wonder, it all seemed right. Its beautiful, comfort music. Combining infectious melodies (you’ll be singing along after 2 listens); dreamy instrumentation; heart-felt, relatable lyrics; her warm, angelic voice and clean, vibrant production, I am sure Shelley Harland will win you over and be one of your favorites of 2009.
Enjoy this clip that was on her myspace and youtube. Its her performing her song Bluebells( believed to be on Red Leaf). I love it, especially the little flub-up part.
